Lectures & Workshops
We seek to expand the girls' horizons intellectually, spiritually, culturally and emotionally. In a challenging academic environment, we endeavour to create an atmosphere of curiosity, interest and passion. High-calibre teaching is complemented by many exciting lectures, workshops, master classes and seminars on a vast range of subjects. We also host speakers of international renown as well as fascinating individuals who have an inspiring story.
All Lower and Upper Sixth pupils are encouraged to participate in the Phoenix Society, which is a forum for presentation and discussion. Subjects include in-depth research the students may be undertaking or simply personal hobbies or passions.
The Careers Department also run the Oyster Society, where a variety of individuals and companies visit Downe House on a Thursday evening to talk to girls from the GCSE years through to the Upper Sixth. The interactive talks range from providing a general overview of certain industries and career paths, to sharing personal stories which help to inspire and encourage the girls.
We embrace diversity at Downe House and so whatever the interest, there is always the opportunity to establish a new club or group.
