Aldon Horse Trials Triumph
Camilla Read in the Lower Fifth won the Under 18 category at the Aldon Horse Trials last weekend, leading in the dressage and with clear rounds in the showjumping and cross country. We could not be more proud of her!
Camilla reports on her day of competition:
At the weekend I was lucky enough to be given permission to go to Aldon BE100U18, a regional South West qualifier. Luckily my horse, Cloonbarry Flare, was very relaxed as both me and my mum were very nervous! Our dressage test went really well apart from a slight mistake on my behalf which I expected to bring my mark down. I was also in a very competitive section and therefore was not expecting a great score.
The dressage scores were not up by the time I went over to showjumping so I wasn't aware of my ranking going into the showjumping round. The course was big and the arena quite tight so was causing problems but my horse was super and jumped an easy clear which was very pleasing and exciting. After showjumping my score was put up and I was hugely excited to find I was in the lead on a dressage score of 22 by five marks!
Of course, this now put a lot of pressure to go clear in the cross-country so walking over was very nerve-racking! My horse was very well behaved and as we set off really took on all the jumps. There were a few tougher questions on the course which he flew and the course was long but his fitness kept well. As we crossed the finish line inside the time clear I think the smile on my face and tears from my mum explained how amazing the moment felt! I ended up winning by seven marks and finished on my dressage score of 22 (our best ever!). It was an incredible experience, one that I will never forget and I am forever grateful for all the support I received!
