Berkshire Young Musician of the Year
March saw the culmination of the 2017 Berkshire Young Musician of the Year competition and Downe House cellist Souny Park, in Lower Fourth, took the crown in the 10-12 years old category for her beautiful renditions of the second suite of Bach in D minor and Saint-Saëns cello concerto in A minor.
Souny was thrilled to take first prize for her age group but to discover also that she had been awarded second prize in the overall competition, in which young musicians aged 10-18 take part.
She explained, “The comments about my performance were very positive and I am very pleased with my results. The judges told me that my pieces were performed very beautifully and they look forward to hearing more. It was a brilliant experience, and I hope to attend the YMOTY again next year. Thank you so much for all the support.”
