It’s all about sport at the Prep Schools’ Masterclass
Last week, the first ever Prep School Sports Masterclass at Downe House took place as part of the ongoing programme of Prep School Days which aim to share the expertise of Downe House teachers in different disciplines.
As the Music and Drama Departments have already organised the Orchestral Fun Day and the Musical Theatre Day for Prep Schools, it was clearly the turn of the Sports Department to showcase the sports facilities and to provide expert coaching in a range of sports.
Despite the forecast of heavy rain, the day went ahead as planned and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those that took part. Just under 40 girls from four Prep Schools came for the day and chose three different sessions from the selection on offer which included lacrosse, athletics, squash, tennis, swimming, hockey and netball. All the girls had fun learning new sports as well as playing some of their old favourites.
Director of Sport, Lydia Rayne said, “It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and excitement amongst the girls, particularly for the sports which they hadn’t tried before such as squash and lacrosse. These taster sessions will stand them in good stead for when they go on to Senior School as they will be more confident with the basics of these new sports. For our staff, it was very rewarding to introduce them to new skills and games and we are very much looking forward to hosting another Sports Masterclass next year with even more participants!”
