Teeing off for MacMillan Cancer Support
On Monday 12 June three members of The Downe House catering team undertook a marathon distance golf round to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Ross MacTaggart Deputy Catering and Events Manager, Phil Weston and Chris Sloggett (both Chefs) took on the epic challenge to complete 72 holes in one day! The scene for their charity fundraising challenge was the Championship course at Donnington Grove Country Club near Newbury, teeing off at 4:45am and completing the round by sunset at approximately 10pm.
Mr MacTaggart commented, “We were blessed with fine weather for our 26 mile golf round and we were delighted to receive snacks from the team back at School to keep us going throughout the day. The MacMillan Cancer Support cause is close to many of us and we were so pleased to be able to raise funds for this amazing charity. Thanks to all those who supported us. Donations are still coming in and we would be grateful for any additional support on our justgiving page to boost the final figure.”
The team was weary but triumphant on Monday evening with £1.072 raised towards their fundraising target. The final distance tracked was 43.2km, just over 26 miles and 63,545 steps!
