Holcombe House win Sports Day
Sports Day dawned bright and sunny with blue skies and baking heat which the girls seemed to take in their stride with some outstanding efforts and achievements across all the events.
As usual, we welcomed many parents and friends to watch the girls run, throw, jump and hurdle their way through the afternoon.
Exceptional performances came from Kitty Shepherd-Cross who took the 1500m crown for AGN with a remarkable run – she also won the Pentathlon and Triple Jump and broke the school record in the 800m! Ella Houston broke the 80m Senior Hurdles Sports Day Record and Fen Bowlby broke the Shot Put Sports Day record. Freya Illingworth and Honor Neville were both awarded the Darley Junior cup for outstanding performance on the day.
Aisholt won the Inter House Relay against some stiff competition from Tedworth and Aisholt also won the Open Relay convincingly.
As is the tradition, an epic tug of war battle between the Houses won by AGN finished off what was an entertaining and inspirational afternoon of sport.
In the final reckoning, Holcombe scored 305 points winning the Sports Day overall with Tedworth coming in second place with 291 points and Aisholt were third with 277 points. Congratulations to the Holcombe girls who all worked very hard for their win!
Director of Sport, Lydia Rayne said, “What a fantastic afternoon we’ve had – in this exceptional heat, the girls have given some very credible performances in both field and track events. Well done to Holcombe for their much deserved win and I would like to congratulate everyone for their excellent efforts today and thankyou to the PE Department who have worked so hard to make today a success!”
