Record number of A*s for Downe House at GCSE
As half a million young people receive their GCSE results today, Downe House pupils are celebrating a record number of A*s. More than 58% of all grades achieved were at A* or at 8/9 in the new numerical grading system, which has been introduced to recognise the highest performing pupils in English Literature and Language. Furthermore 82.7% of grades achieved were at A*/A.
Over a quarter of the year group achieved nine or more A* equivalent grades and a staggering 35% achieved eight A* or more.
Our special congratulations go to the following girls for achieving 10, 11 or 12 A*s, a formidable achievement:
Isabella J (10)
We are particularly proud to announce that almost 70% of all grades for English Literature and 50% of the English Language course were at Grade 9 level. The new numerical grades run from 1 to 9, 9 being the highest, and have been introduced to recognise the more challenging content of the GCSE in English Literature and Language and reward the very highest performing students. Fewer 9s will be awarded than A*s, reflecting the peak of attainment.
