It has been an outstanding year for Downe House leavers. The recent A Level/Pre-U results reflected the hard work they had put in over the last two years and have allowed them to take up places at the world’s top universities.
In all 97 applications were made and 100% of girls received offers, most of which were through UCAS but some also applied for Foundation and overseas courses. In total, 82% achieved their first choice university and 31% will take up a place at one of the top 20 universities in the world. And over 10% are heading to universities ranked in the top ten in the world (including Oxbridge, Harvard, UCL, LSE, KCL, Edinburgh and Imperial), reflecting the global ambition of this year group.
Marya Akhtar, Director of Higher Education, enthused, “This has been a year for celebration as we see so many of our girls succeed in gaining a place on the course and at the university of their dreams. Overall, 79 girls are going to UK universities, 33 of them (42%) to the top ten UK universities. We are delighted that 69 girls (87%) are off to Russell Group universities and 11 girls (14%) are taking up places at the top London universities. We are also incredibly pleased to see that an increasing number of girls have gained places on the most competitive STEM courses such as Natural Sciences, Medicine, Physics and Biomedical Sciences at Harvard, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial College London.”
