Celebrating the European Day of Languages
Last week, the Modern Languages Department organised a series of events to mark the European Day of Languages which is organised by the Council of Europe and celebrated every year on 26 September across 45 participating countries.
A group of Lower Fourth girls participated in the annual competition organised at Marlborough College. Six schools took part in a Language Quiz in which there was a mixture of guessing the language from listening to recorded messages or reading a text, Kahoot! games and more traditional questions and answers.
During the week, the Modern Languages Department organised taster sessions in languages other than the ones they normally do and a Linguistic Quiz for all age groups which was well attended and proved to be a very enjoyable session for everyone.
Head of Modern Languages, Mrs Jane Basnett said, “Our girls have had a lot of fun with the events we have organised to mark the European Day of Languages and I think the quizzes have been both entertaining and educational. Many of them have been introduced to a new language and the girls who went to the Marlborough College Quiz did very well as some of the questions were very challenging for all of the participants!”
