Downe versus Downe

At the Southwest Schools’ Lacrosse Rally on Saturday, two Downe House teams unexpectedly came face-to-face in a gripping lacrosse final.

Minna Crewdson writes:

On Saturday 7 October the Downe House Lacrosse 3rd team took part in the Southwest Rally as an addition to the tournament for second teams. We quickly got into our stride as we succeeded in getting through the first and second rounds, coming first in our section and beating numerous second teams. This left us with a huge amount of confidence to go into the semi-finals versus St Swithun’s, which was a close and gripping game, and which, to our complete surprise, we came out winning. We were then faced with the final - playing our own 2nd team! This was fun and also very exciting as no one on the sidelines knew quite who to cheer for! Unfortunately this was our first and only loss of the day. We finished in second place overall, however, we definitely went away very very happy!

One parent commented, “A GREAT day yesterday at St Swithun’s. Brilliant, exciting matches, and how well Downe House played, and especially the 3rds (of course), not losing a single match until playing the 2nds in the grand final. What a tribute to the girls, to Downe House and to their coaches!”
