On Tuesday 16 January, the Lower Sixth (Year 12) took part in the annual ARTiculation competition. The competitors are provided an opportunity to deliver a short presentation about a work of art, design, architecture or any visual media that really inspires them.
This year, nine Lower Sixth pupils took up the challenge. The artworks chosen highlighted a diverse range of interests.
Wendy – Song Dong’s Waste Not
Serena – Female Power Portrayed in Art
Chen – Ninjago, Season 8
Victoria – Alexandre Cabanel’s Fallen Angel
Keren – Gustav Klimt
Luma – Lois Van Baarle: Art & Emotions
Ophelia – The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine film
Padmaja – Raja Ravi Varma
Nampetch – Ari Aster’s Midsommar
Thank you to all the competitors for working hard to create such an informative and entertaining evening. The final prizes were distributed as follows.
The Highly Commended prize went to Serena for her historical knowledge, contextualising the work of Artemisia Gentileschi, and for her obvious passion for Gentileschi’s ground-breaking portrayals.
Victoria was awarded the Runner-Up prize for her detailed focus on one work of art, and why it presented such a challenge to both the 19th century art establishment and today’s viewers.
