Downe House Funfair 2025

31 Ocak 2025

To start the term off with a bang, Downe House was transformed into a lively hub of excitement as a funfair came to town, bringing with it a day packed with rides, games, and sweet treats. From dizzying spins to delicious popcorn, pupils across the school had a blast making memories as they were welcomed back to school.

Gigi in Lower Fifth shared her highlights of the day:

There was such a variety of rides with the Waltzer, Bumper Cars, and more, and we also got the chance to win prizes from carnival games such as Hook a Duck and Football Darts. We all had so much fun getting as dizzy as possible on all the rides as well as having the delicious sweet treats like popcorn or cotton candy. It was also quite funny trying to walk through the mirror maze without getting lost or bumping into the walls!

For Philippa in Lower Fourth, the day started with a warm welcome for future pupils:

It was lots of fun to meet all the wonderful new girls that will be joining our year in Upper Fourth in the morning, when we got to tour them around the funfair. Later on in the day, we got to go on all the rides with our friends. The Waltzer was my personal favourite, although it made us all very dizzy! There was one that went upside down that was also very thrilling, and even Mrs McKendrick went on it!

The upside-down ride proved to be a favourite among many pupils, including Alice in the Remove:

It was a really fun day! I loved all the rides and sweets we got as prizes for the games. My favourite ride was definitely the huge one that went upside down. I went on it with Miss Clare and the Lower School Seniors and then managed to get Mrs McKendrick to come on with me!

Clemmie in Lower Fourth set her own record for bravery:

I went on the ride that went upside down eight times!! I loved it.

For Uwekhai in Lower Fourth, the day was about speed and sugar:

The rides were exhilarating! I went on the Waltzer and it was really fast, but I do like fast rides. The popcorn was really good, and I had lots and lots of it – so was the cotton candy!

And while Elektra in the Remove enjoyed the games, she admitted her luck wasn’t quite on her side:

I really enjoyed the rides and the games but only managed to win one thing on the Hook a Duck even though I kept going back to it – I wasn’t very good!

The day wasn’t just about rides and games; it was a chance for everyone to come together, create unforgettable moments, and share in the excitement. Whether it was racing around in Bumper Cars or convincing teachers to join in on the fun, the Downe House Funfair was a day to remember for all.
