Ink & Echoes: Amore

Open Mic Poetry Evening

13th February 2025

3 marzo 2025

As it was leading up to Valentine’s Day, love was already in the air with a lovely display in the Murray Centre, set up by our Pride Youth Network team, to celebrate LGBTQIA+ History Month. The celebration continued with Ink & Echoes: Amore a night celebrating a love of poetry, with girls from Remove to UVI taking part, and fun enjoyed by both staff and students. Stay tuned for our third poetry open mic evening, Ink & Echoes: Summer Solstice, on 12th June 2025. We hope the evening will be filled with sunshine, warmth and a memorable farewell to our Upper Sixth poets.

A few new faces joined us and the sweet treats—pink candies, chocolate hearts and hot chocolate—kept us energised throughout the night. We had poems about love, friendship, humour, self-love and even an impromptu poem made on the spot. Activities during the breaks included magnetic poetry and origami, drawing out each student’s inner creative soul. We also took a nostalgic trip back to old-school photo crazes by creating the word “LOVE” out of our silhouettes. It was a fun and interactive way to engage with everyone and bring some unique moments to the night!

Our Literary Senior, Iris, did an amazing job of encouraging our headmistress, Mrs McKendrick, to read a love poem on the spot and of course she read it beautifully. Thank you, Mrs McKendrick, for showing your support once again and for always saying yes! The support for one another was truly heartwarming, as the girls constantly encouraged and praised each other throughout the evening. A special thanks to Mrs Toogood for gifting us with lovely pink and white roses in her absence.

Thank you again to our incredible library team for making the night unforgettableLearn more about the Murray Centre Library. You can also watch a video recap of the evening.
